Where to book New Year’s Eve dinner in Berlin?

Pick a place where dinner takes up the whole evening, so you aren’t looking for a table as the streets get crowded. A tasting menu in Kreuzberg, a long Roman set dinner in Neukölln or Anatolian mezze in Prenzlauer Berg will each carry you comfortably to the countdown.

Tulus Lotrek cooks bold, richly flavoured tasting menus in a warm, patterned Kreuzberg dining room. The hosting feels more like dinner at a friend’s place than a hushed temple. Let the sommelier choose the pairings. If you want the longer menu, say so when you book: the kitchen tailors it to the table.

At Lavanderia Vecchia, a Roman fixed dinner arrives course after course in a Neukölln courtyard, with laundry strung across the ceiling. Antipasti come first, then pasta and mains. Come hungry and keep the next few hours free. On a night meant to drift slowly into the new year, that pace fits.

Where to spend a quieter New Year’s Eve in west Berlin?

In Charlottenburg, Marjellchen cooks East Prussian and Pomeranian dishes you rarely see elsewhere, and A-Trane, a jazz club on Savignyplatz, seats you close to the stage. Between them you get a full evening without crossing the city, and there’s a breakfast option in the same neighbourhood for the morning.

Portions are generous at Marjellchen. Expect Königsberger Klopse, goose and dumplings in a cosy room crowded with mementos, and an owner who often tells the story behind each dish. Order the Klopse and let the host walk you through the regional specials.

A-Trane has hosted touring and local players for decades. There are sets every night, the room is small, and the crowd comes to listen. Check the programme for the night before you go. Seeing out the year to live jazz is a very different evening from fireworks in the street.

Where to go for a drink in Berlin around midnight?

In the hours either side of the countdown, a small cocktail bar beats an open square. Becketts Kopf in Prenzlauer Berg and Würgeengel in Kreuzberg both keep going into the early hours and make classic drinks with real care. Use either as a first stop after dinner, or stay and raise a glass there when the year turns.

The only sign at Becketts Kopf is a portrait of Samuel Beckett in the window. Inside, the lounge is hushed and lit by candles, and the classic and seasonal cocktails come at an unhurried pace. Go for one carefully made drink, not a fast round.

Würgeengel is named after a Buñuel film. Red walls, brass and a glass ceiling make the room feel caught in another decade. Stick to the classics, which the bar does best, and grab a bite first at the tapas bar next door.

Where to eat in Berlin after midnight and on New Year’s morning?

A late bite after the fireworks needs a little planning. Curry 36 in Kreuzberg keeps frying currywurst well past midnight, with a steady line of taxi drivers, students and club-goers. For the slow morning after, Benedict in Charlottenburg serves eggs benedict, shakshuka and breakfast plates long after breakfast time.

At Curry 36 the wurst is fried crisp and covered in a sauce that’s more sweet than hot, with a wooden fork and a pile of fries on the side. The queue gets shorter in the small hours. Order your fries rot-weiß, with both ketchup and mayo.

Benedict’s breakfast room is inside a hotel, and it pulls in late risers, jet-lagged travellers and post-club crowds alike. It makes an easy first meal of the year: the shakshuka holds up just as well in the evening as at noon.

How should you plan New Year’s Eve night in Berlin?

Think of the night in three parts: dinner booked for early evening, a bar or jazz room for the countdown, then a late snack or breakfast to finish. Build your route around the neighbourhoods on our list, and keep the walks between stops short, especially once the fireworks begin.

The cards show each place’s usual hours. Holiday schedules often differ, so confirm New Year’s Eve opening times directly when you book. To keep the night simple, pair places in the same neighbourhood: Kreuzberg for dinner, cocktails and currywurst, or Charlottenburg for Klopse, jazz and breakfast.
