When do the Vienna Christmas markets open, and where locals go
Opening dates and hours for Vienna's main Christmas markets, from Schönbrunn and Rathausplatz to Spittelberg, plus where to eat nearby in the 7th district.
Where to eat after the Spittelberg market
A mug of punch is not dinner. Two places on our list, Glacis Beisl and Restaurant Collina am Berg, are a couple of minutes’ walk from the stalls. Glacis Beisl is inside the grounds of the MuseumsQuartier and cooks a seasonal Austrian menu that follows the farmers market. Its Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal rather than pork.
Restaurant Collina am Berg is on Spittelberggasse itself and mixes Austrian and Italian cooking. The pasta is made by hand and the risotto is done with proper technique. On the wine list, Austrian and Italian producers sit side by side.
